If you are expecting, a Newhaven Pregnancy massage is wonderful to receive. At ‘Be Well with Shell’ we know this from personal experience how wonderful receiving a massage during pregnancy can be.
Massage during this time can help promote feeling of relaxation, easing any worries about what is happening inside of you or any of the usual day to day tribulations. It can also help relieve aches and pains experienced from carrying the extra weight and holding yourself in different positions during the day and while you are sleeping. Some water retention can be relieved during the massage and some acupressure points are able to reduce feelings of nausea and can increase your energy.
This lovely treatment lasts for 60 minutes and will leave you feeling completely pampered and relaxed.
As your needs change through pregnancy the treatment will be adapted to cater for your needs from different positions to extra supports and different focus areas.
Acupressure points can be incorporated into the massage to help with common pregnancy symptoms as well as to help in birth preparation. This is where regular massage can really make a difference to you and your baby.
Newhaven pregnancy massage: What to expect
On arrival a consultation will be carried out to find out about your health and well being; this will highlight any focus areas as well as deciding how to adapt the treatment specifically to your needs. It also allows you to ask any questions you may have as well as allowing the therapist to determine whether a treatment is suitable. (Treatment may be unsuitable due to some medical conditions, please see contraindications and Pregnancy massage: Cautions pages for more details).
You will be able to choose to have a full body treatment or to have the time spent on several specific areas such as back and legs. The massage can be relaxing and soothing, it can focus on stimulating and reviving tired and achy areas or it can be a combination of all of these e.g. working into tension in the shoulders, relaxing massage and stimulating techniques used on the head or feet to complete the massage.
You will be able to change in private, once you are on the massage couch the therapist will freshen your feet and ensure you are comfortable, there are always extra blankets and cushions to support you if needed. At any time during the massage you will be able to move into a more comfortable position and your therapist will continue the massage in the new position.
The pregnancy massage will last for 60 minutes. If you feel uncomfortable at any point the massage can be paused or ended completely. A reduced price or an alternative treatment may be offered depending upon personal circumstances and this will be discussed once you are dressed again.
At the end of the Newhaven Pregnancy Massage you will be able to dress and then take a seat to have some water before going back out into the world.
The lovely Newhaven treatment room provides a calming escape from everyday life perfect from pregnancy massage. A step to help you on and off the couch and lots of supports and covers are all on hand to make this a perfect experience.
Pregnancy massage: Cautions to consider
As well as the usual conditions to consider during massage, pregnancy carries extra precautions.
Massage is considered to be a safe treatment to give during a ‘normal’ pregnancy. If you have a history of miscarriage or difficulties during pregnancy you should discuss any alternate therapies with your midwife and doctor before attending. In these cases you will need to provide your therapist with a letter from your doctor confirming that you are able to receive a treatment. Letters are available for Holistic Treats to send to you so you can ask your doctor to complete your details and sign.
After 4 months of pregnancy with a history of miscarriage massage can be given as normal.
If you experience any of the following you must seek medical advice and no treatment can be given: persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, headaches combined with oedema and aversion to bright lights, pain and tenderness in the legs, fever with abdominal and/or back pain, painful urination, extreme itching, lasting oedema, hyper/ hypotension.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask, it is always best to put your anxieties to rest before you arrive for your treatment.
Many expectant mothers also book in for a pedicure or other beauty treatments.
