On arrival a consultation will be carried out to find out about your health and well being; this will highlight any focus areas as well as deciding how to adapt the treatment specifically to your needs. It also allows you to ask any questions you may have as well as allowing the therapist to determine whether a treatment is suitable. (Treatment may be unsuitable due to some medical conditions, please see contraindications page for more details).
The therapist will discuss with you whether you would like the reiki energy to be directed towards a specific problem or area of the body or if you would like to feel balanced and relaxed. This will help the therapist to guide the energy.
You will be able to make yourself comfortable on the massage couch in private, once you are settled the therapist will cover you with a blanket to keep you warm.
You will remain clothed during the reiki session, the therapist will normally not need to make physical contact during this time as they are there only to give direction and intent to the energy. If the session is focused solely on reiki then a meditation is often used to begin to help you to relax and switch off from everything going on in your mind.
A reiki treatment may last for 30, or 60 minutes or may be included as part of another treatment such as reflexology or at the end of a massage.
At the end of the treatment the therapist will make sweeping movements down your limbs to your feet making you feel grounded. You will then be given time to sit up, take a seat and to have some water before going back out into the world.
