A Reiki treatment is ideal for anyone wanting to reset, calm and relax both emotionally and physically. The Be Well With Shell Newhaven Reiki treatment is held in our lovely relaxing treatment room. There will be relaxing ambient music playing and a comfortable couch for you to relax on.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for reducing stress and encouraging relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us, if this energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
What to expect during Newhaven Reiki Treatment
On arrival a consultation will be carried out to find out about your health and well being; this will highlight any focus areas as well as deciding how to adapt the treatment specifically to your needs. It also allows you to ask any questions you may have as well as allowing the therapist to determine whether a treatment is suitable. (Treatment may be unsuitable due to some medical conditions, please see contraindications page for more details).
The therapist will discuss with you whether you would like the reiki energy to be directed towards a specific problem or area of the body or if you would like to feel balanced and relaxed. This will help the therapist to guide the energy.
You will be able to make yourself comfortable on the massage couch in private, once you are settled the therapist will cover you with a blanket to keep you warm.
You will remain clothed during the reiki session, the therapist will normally not need to make physical contact during this time as they are there only to give direction and intent to the energy. If the session is focused solely on reiki then a meditation is often used to begin to help you to relax and switch off from everything going on in your mind.
A Newhaven reiki treatment may last for 30, or 60 minutes or may be included as part of another treatment such as reflexology or at the end of a massage.
At the end of the treatment the therapist will make sweeping movements down your limbs to your feet making you feel grounded. You will then be given time to sit up, take a seat and to have some water before going back out into the world.
What is Reiki? The Usui Story
Dr Mikao Usui was born in 1865, how he founded the Usui system of natural healing is widely speculated. Many sources do agree that he was among other things a buddhist monk and that he spent many years travelling across Japan, China and Europe to increase his knowledge.
In about 1922 Usui went to Mount Kurama for 21 days to meditate and fast, it was at the end of this period that he experienced a moment of enlightenment where the reiki energy attuned him and allowed him to be aware of his ability to heal.
Usui used this energy on himself and his family and then opened clinics to treat and teach others. It was at this point that he developed the stages of attunement and levels of training. He wanted reiki to be available to everybody and believed that using this energy we could work together to bring harmony to the world.
In 1926 Usui died but through his teachings the Usui system of natural healing was able to be passed on and used for increasing the well being of others.
